The “Alte Rathaus” (old town hall)

The Alte Rathaus was constructed in 1504 at the site of the former town hall which had burned down and which had been handed over to the citizens by Count Kraft VI of Hohenlohe in 1496.

Originally, the gothic portals led into a large shopping area situated on the ground floor. The first floor was initially used as a “dance hall”.

The second floor accommodated the “Ratssaal” (council chamber) with its renaissance-style furnishings. This hall originating from 1603 has a richly ornamented portal and a coffered ceiling with allegory reliefs of the five senses.

The free-standing sculpture of count Kraft VI originates from 1549, while the bay window and the colored coats of arms of Hohenlohe, Öhringen and Württemberg were attached in 1953, underlining the significance of the house.

In 1992/93, the old town hall was fully renovated and modernized.

Since 1994, the Stadtbücherei (municipal library) of Öhringen has been located in this building, which is the townscape's defining landmark and a culturally significant point of reference for guests and visitors from the entire region.
