Secret capital and key experience in Hohenlohe

Oehringen has a population of nearly 23,000 inhabitants and is the largest city in the Hohenlohekreis district, the land of castles and palaces between Swabia and Franconia. The city’s historical roots reach back to Roman times and the settlement of “Vicus Aurelianus” which was located right at the Welterbe Limes (world heritage site of limes). Whether as a Roman settlement, former residence, Oberamtsstadt (district authority), Kreissitz (seat of district) or Große Kreisstadt (major district town) – the city at the river Ohrn enjoyed an outstanding position during all periods of history.

A further historical step for the town of Oehringen was made in 2006, when it was the official home to the Australian national soccer team during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Due to the unparalleled media response, the so-called “2dotstown” built up a reputation with millions of viewers particularly in Australia.

As a dynamic economical location, a booming shopping centre and an attractive residential area, the metropolis of Hohenlohe of today includes a catchment area of more than 80,000 inhabitants.

Oehringen is situated in the heart of the "Swabian Tuscany" in close proximity to the A6 autobahn and only a few kilometers from the A81.

Oehringen can be reached conveniently by the German Railway’s local trains. In addition, Oehringen is a destination of the city railway line S4, taking travellers coming from Karlsruhe or Heilbronn to the Hohenloher Land in no time.

Shopping in Oehringen is fun for old and young. A large variety of retailers, a balanced mix of industries in the city centre and the shopping centres “Oe-Center” and “Steinsfeldle” at the outskirts of Oehringen offer a rich and versatile shopping experience.

Whether the collegiate church (Stiftskirche), palace (Schloss), Hofgarten (court gardens), Tiergehege (vivarium) or the Strandbad H2Oe (lido) – Oehringen is an atmospheric backdrop for interesting activities for every occasion and taste. In addition, the town offers a large variety of events that attract numerous visitors from the entire region. Classic events such as the Hohenloher Weindorf (wine village of Hohenlohe), the traditional horse market, historical activities at the Stiftsherrenmarkt (canons market), the “Lange Nacht der Kultur” (long cultural night) or the “Maerchenhafte Oehringen“(Magical Oehringen) at Christmas time make a visit to Oehringen a wonderful experience.

Residents of Oehringen can engage in and contribute in many different ways to public life. More than 120 different types of clubs and societies are the perfect platform for all kind of leisure activities. Oehringen is also a prime location for schooling and education with more than 6,000 students participating every day. The Große Kreisstadt (major district town) offers many different types of schools and educational establishments, earning Oehringen the title of “Lernort der Region” (region’s key location for education).

Just as the town’s educational systems, the urban economic support and an innovative city management are forward-looking, visionary and very pragmatic. The city of short distances offers immense variety, plenty of locational advantages and a high quality of life with urban railway access…
